The concept is “Back to Nature”, with huts built by the Orang Asli themselves. It is surrounded with a nice compound, equipped with hammocks, community and games area as well as a rock spa.

To me it felt like a high-end mission trip into the interior. It is also well known for its splendid food, a local feast of sorts. To kick off the adventure trip, we chose to go for the wet abseiling, which brought us to this waterfall.

Our task was to scale down the wall of the 15m waterfall. Now I don’t know if it’s age catching up or just the fear of the unknown, but I must admit I was a little nervous being the first one to go down.

Once you’ve made it, it gets easier the next time round. Since there were only 2 of us, we got to go as many times as we wanted, so we each went down 4 times. Not that it was enough to satisfy our desire for the thrill, it was just that we were losing strength by that time. We have had to cling on for dear life as we slipped a few times since our shoes had no grip on the wall of the waterfall. And we have bruises and scratches to show for it too. Now it’s not as bad as it sounds once you get the technique right (it was just us trying to learn the ropes), and it was definitely a lot of fun!

I was praying endlessly for protection. And as I was sitting there watching her come down, I took away a lesson for me. To abseil down properly, you must learn to lean back on the rope, align your body in the right position to the rope and never let go of the rope. It does require strength to do just that, but when you get it right, it doesn’t matter how steep the path is, how strong the current of the waterfall that beats down on you or how slippery your footing is. Just like in life, if we learn to lean on God who is our life rope, cling on to Him and align ourselves with Him, it doesn’t matter what strong currents may hit us or circumstances that may cause us to slip, we are secure in Him. However, it does require strength to hang in there, and focus to constantly align ourselves. But we need to lean on Him. Those who bend forward instead of leaning back on the rope always slip and fall. And yes, thank God for His protection and an enjoyable time.
Later in the afternoon, we went caving in Gua Kandu. We got hauled off in a lorry like mine workers.

The cave wasn’t spectacular visually, with the normal splendour of stalactites and stalagmites, but it sure was an exciting one. One that required us to squeeze through tiny holes, and climb up and down steep walls.

All in all, it was a satisfying trip. We took back with us many first time experiences, a good time of fellowship and lots of insect bites to keep us scratching for days.
